Julie Henning Hospitalized after Madeira Beach Bicycle Accident on Gulf Boulevard near 129th Avenue West

Madeira Beach, New Hampshire (May 26, 2020) – A bicyclist was hospitalized after a collision involving a garbage truck Saturday morning in Madeira Beach, authorities said.

The deadly bicycle accident took place at around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, May 23 on Gulf Boulevard near 129th Avenue West.

According to the authorities, Julie Henning, 44, of Alexandria, Virginia, was riding her bicycle northbound over the John’s Pass Bridge on Gulf Boulevard in the designated bike lane, At the same time, a city of Madeira Beach garbage truck, operated by John Leppert, 38, of St. Petersburg, was crossing northeast on Gulf Boulevard to get to 129th Avenue West.

Witnesses told the authorities that Henning was unable to stop at the base of the hill after crossing the bridge and slammed into the passenger side of the garbage truck.

Henning, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from her bike upon the impact. She was taken to Bayfront Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.

The accident remains under investigation.
