Nicholas Woods ID’d as Man Killed in Hondo Motorcycle Accident on U.S. Highway 380
Hondo, New Mexico (September 9, 2020) – Authorities have identified the man who died in a head-on crash Saturday afternoon near Hondo as Nicholas E. Woods, 49, of Hobbs.
The deadly car accident happened on U.S. Highway 380 near mile marker 106 on Saturday, September 5.
According to New Mexico State Police, a 2004 Dodge Durango SUV truck, driven by Autumn Swanner of Nogal, was heading eastbound on U.S. 380 when, for undetermined reasons, the Dodge drifted off the roadway.
The Dodge then went back and crossed the center median into the opposite lane, where it struck Woods, who was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle in the westbound lane of U.S. 380.
Woods was declared dead at the scene.
Swanner was uninjured and was cited for careless driving. Intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the accident.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
